Imagine a world where conflict is resolved
in a non-violent way...
Imagine being able to readily tap into
your creative and imaginative abilities to design a better
world. These are the intentions of a Waldorf Doll.
Waldorf dolls originated with the 1st
Waldorf School in Stuttgardt, Germany in 1919. In the aftermath
of World War I, all of Europe, and Germany in particular,
was mired in social and economic chaos. These dolls, open
to the unlimited imaginative possibilities of children's play,
were created to help develop a healthy sense of self and nurturing,
and the creative capacities of our future citizens and leaders.
A "Waldorf" doll is given to both boys and girls
alike.
The dolls are made of natural, renewable materials that
are close to their original sources. 100% cotton knit skin
"breathes" with the child. Wool stuffing gets warmer
as it is held, just like a real baby. The characteristic shaping
of the head and face makes this uniquely a “Waldorf”
doll. The simple embroidered face allows for more imaginative
play than with a doll with a fixed stare. Mohair and wool
yarn hair give the doll a natural look. The clothes can be
the body of the infant doll and of cotton, silk and wool for
the older child.
Handcrafting a doll in the image of the child that is to
receive it is an act of love. The doll that resembles a child
tells them that they are a unique individual and belong here.
A doll such as this will offer the child a companion to tell
his/her secrets to and work out his/her emotions with - to
share in the joys and sorrows of childhood. A doll is there
to help develop nurturing and caring qualities and imaginative
play.
Parents, be worthy of imitation and model
caring behavior that your child is apt to imitate. Treat their
doll as if it were alive and your child will follow suit.
Thank you. I hope you enjoy your doll or kit from Joy’s
Waldorf Dolls.
Sincerely,
Joy Chambers
